Peer-to-peer car sharing · Hudson Valley

Car sharing in the Hudson Valley and the Catskills

Levy is a peer-to-peer car-sharing marketplace for the Hudson Valley, from Rockland and Orange up through Putnam, Dutchess, Ulster, Columbia, and Greene. Owners list their cars, and drivers rent them for hikes, ski days, and trips between river towns. Hosts can create draft listings now. Bookings open when the marketplace launches.

Why it fits

Why car sharing works in Hudson Valley

For drivers

The trains follow the river; trailheads, ski areas, and farm stands sit miles from any station. Buses are thin in the mountains: Greene County Transit runs weekdays only, with weekly service to Hunter, Tannersville, and Windham (Greene County Transit).

Visitors do come by train. Amtrak counted 274,515 riders at Hudson, 218,942 at Rhinecliff, and 137,123 at Poughkeepsie in fiscal 2025 (Amtrak New York fact sheet). A car from a local owner near the station covers the last leg.

For hosts

This is car country. Across Putnam, Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Ulster, Orange, and Rockland counties, only 8.1% of households have no vehicle, compared with 29.2% statewide (Census data via Census Reporter). A second car that mostly sits in the driveway can be shared on the days you do not need it.

You choose which foliage, ski, and hiking weekends your car is available, and at what price.
