2026 Comparison

Levy Fleets vs HyreCar

HyreCar closed in February 2025 with Getaround’s US wind-down. If you rent vehicles to rideshare and delivery drivers, this is about running those rentals yourself instead of waiting for a replacement marketplace.

TL;DR: HyreCar served gig-driver rental well and ceased operating in February 2025 alongside Getaround's US wind-down; nothing has replaced it at scale. If you rented vehicles to rideshare and delivery drivers, Levy provides the weekly recurring billing, remote turnover, and non-payment protection that segment actually needs — but you will have to rebuild the driver demand locally yourself.

Levy Fleets

United States

Managed: 8% of car-sharing revenue — no fee when the fleet is idle
Rental: $3/vehicle/mo — booking, contracts, invoicing, POS, maintenance, tolls
Connected: $14/vehicle/mo — adds vehicle access, Guestpass unlock, telemetry, AI damage detection
No setup fee, no fleet-size minimum, no hardware required on OEM-compatible vehicles
Turnkey solution with operational support
Gig rentals are the use case where connected access earns its keep. Weekly turnovers mean frequent handoffs, and drivers who fall behind on payment are the single most common operational problem. With the access path configured in Levy Fleets, a weekly renewal can extend access automatically and a lapsed one can simply stop being extended — without a confrontation in a parking lot. Levy does not remotely disable a vehicle mid-trip; access is gated at the session level.

Recurring billing is the part gig rentals actually need

Weekly gig rentals are a subscription business wearing a rental costume. The operational failure mode is not booking — it is the driver whose card declines in week six. Levy’s subscription and rental modules handle recurring billing, retries, and low-balance handling, and the platform’s stop-on-low-balance behavior is on by default so an unpaid week does not quietly become four. That is a different problem from what a booking calendar solves, and it is the reason generic rental software tends to struggle with this segment.

What direct gig rentals look like without a marketplace cut

Gig rental economics are driven by utilization and weekly rate rather than nightly pricing. These scenarios assume a $300/week rate at roughly 80% utilization.

Handoff time assumes roughly 45 minutes per weekly turnover, which remote handoff largely eliminates. Utilization and weekly rates vary widely by market and vehicle class; treat these as a modelling starting point rather than a forecast.

When to Choose Each Platform

Choose Levy Fleets if you...

  • You rented vehicles to rideshare or delivery drivers on HyreCar and need to run those rentals directly
  • You want weekly recurring billing with retries and automatic protection against unpaid weeks
  • You want to stop meeting every driver in person for every weekly turnover
  • You want odometer, location, and condition data on vehicles in gig service
  • You want to set your own driver eligibility bar and document the decision
  • You run cars alongside other vehicle types and want a single dashboard

Choose HyreCar if you...

  • Nothing to choose — HyreCar no longer operates. If you need the largest US car-sharing audience today, Turo is the biggest option, though it is not built for weekly gig rentals.

Why Operators Choose Levy Over HyreCar

Levy still operates — HyreCar does not, and the segment it served has no dominant replacement

Long-term and weekly rentals run through the rental and subscription modules with recurring billing

Remote handoff via Guestpass means weekly turnovers do not require meeting every driver

Automatic low-balance stop and per-ride unfunded sizing protect against drivers who stop paying

You set the driver eligibility bar, not a marketplace

8% of car-sharing revenue with no marketplace commission on direct rentals

Standing up direct gig rentals takes about three weeks

The hard part is not software — it is that HyreCar supplied driver demand and nothing has fully replaced it. Plan for a demand-building period.

1
Step 1

Connect vehicles and set weekly terms

Add the fleet, configure the access path per vehicle, and set weekly rates, mileage allowances, deposits, and the rental agreement. Configure recurring billing so weekly charges run automatically.

2
Step 2

Define your own driver eligibility bar

Set the ID verification, driving-record, and rideshare-eligibility requirements you want. On a marketplace this was inherited; running direct it is yours to decide and yours to document.

3
Step 3

Rebuild demand locally

Gig-driver demand is intensely local. Driver forums, rideshare hub locations, and word of mouth within driver communities replace the marketplace listing. Existing renters from your HyreCar days are the fastest place to start.

Questions from operators considering the switch

What happened to HyreCar?
Getaround acquired HyreCar’s assets in 2023 for $9.45 million. When Getaround wound down its US operations in February 2025, HyreCar ceased operating alongside it. There is no successor platform serving the gig-driver rental segment at comparable scale.
Does Levy find gig drivers for me?
Levy gives you the listing and booking surface — its peer-to-peer marketplace, plus your own direct channel — along with recurring billing, remote handoff, condition reports, and fleet operations. It is not a gig-driver-specific marketplace the way HyreCar was, so most of the demand still comes locally: driver communities, rideshare hub locations, and referrals.
How do I handle a driver who stops paying?
Weekly rentals run on recurring billing with automatic retries. Levy’s stop-on-low-balance behavior is enabled by default, so an unfunded week does not silently accumulate. Access is gated at the session level: an expired rental simply is not extended. Levy does not remotely disable a vehicle mid-trip, and you should still follow your local repossession and notice requirements.
Can I rent to gig drivers and regular renters on the same fleet?
Yes. The same vehicles can run weekly gig rentals, daily direct rentals, and marketplace trips, with different rate structures and agreements per booking type. Utilization reporting shows which mix is actually earning on each vehicle.
What about insurance for gig rentals?
This is the genuinely hard part and Levy only partly addresses it. Levy Cover binds per-trip coverage on P2P car trips with subaccount opt-in, and Axle can verify a renter’s own policy against your minimums — but rideshare and delivery use carries specific commercial implications that a per-trip product is not a substitute for. Arrange a commercial policy with a carrier that explicitly writes for rideshare rental before taking a booking.

About HyreCar

HyreCar solved a specific problem well: gig-economy drivers who wanted to earn on Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, or Instacart but did not own a rideshare-eligible vehicle. Founded in Los Angeles in 2014 by Anshu Bansal and Abhishek Arora and later publicly traded, it connected those drivers with owners willing to rent by the week. Getaround acquired its assets in 2023 for $9.45 million, and HyreCar ceased operating in February 2025 when Getaround wound down its US business. The gig-driver rental segment it served is now largely unserved by a dedicated marketplace — which is why owners with vehicles suited to that work are looking for software to run the same rentals directly.

HyreCar Features

  • Weekly rentals aimed specifically at rideshare and delivery drivers
  • Rideshare-eligibility screening tied to Uber and Lyft requirements
  • Insurance arranged through the platform for the rental period
  • Owner listings with weekly rate pricing
  • Driver background and eligibility verification
  • Marketplace demand from gig drivers seeking vehicles

HyreCar Pricing

HyreCar operated as a two-sided marketplace taking a commission on each rental, with owners listing vehicles and gig drivers renting them by the week. Insurance was arranged through the platform for the rental period. The company was acquired by Getaround in 2023 and ceased operations in February 2025 as part of Getaround’s US wind-down, so there is no current pricing.
