Connects to a plug-in chain or cable
Cable Integration
AXA recommends proper protected routing to reduce vandalism risk
Public Spec Gaps
Battery, dimensions, and IP rating are not published on the OEM page

Power & Operation

Power Source
Powered by the host IoT module or e-bike battery โ€” no internal cell, no battery-replacement service calls
Operation Mode
Online only through the host module; the lock has no built-in cellular radio
Plug-In Chain Detection
Detects when an Absolute Plug-In chain is inserted (matches the BLE variant)
Form Factor
Standard AXA Defender RL retrofit โ€” same chassis as the BLE variant
In the Box
Lock body, wiring harness, mounting hardware, and mechanical service key

Unlock Methods

RFID
Card or chip unlock through the host system โ€” supports closed-loop or membership fleets where users may not have phones
Smartphone
Smartphone unlock via the operator backend (not direct BLE)
Mechanical
Service key for override during maintenance

Certifications & Pedigree

Mechanical Pedigree
Inherits AXA Defender RL chassis โ€” Sold Secure Silver baseline before electronics

Allegion (also parent of Schlage and von Duprin)

Ideal Use Cases

Fleets With Existing IoT
E-bike rental fleets where bikes already have a cellular gateway or IoT module
Closed-Loop Programs
Corporate or campus fleets using RFID badges
Hospitality
Hotel and resort bike share with RFID room-key integration
OEM Integration
Bikes where lock state needs to feed into the existing CAN bus or display

Features & Capabilities

Key Features

Wired I/O control
5-wire connection to host IoT module
Plug-in chain or cable support
Customized for bike sharing and rental
No AXA monthly lock-connectivity fee when controlled by host module

Pros

  • Designed for deeper OEM electrical integration
  • Preserves smartphone access for riders
  • Supports fixed-object locking via plug-in accessories

Cons

  • -Requires an external IoT module; AXA no longer supplies its own IoT module
  • -Requires proper cable integration and vandalism-resistant routing
  • -Public OEM page does not publish full electrical or fitment details
  • -Sold as an integration product rather than a standard public retail SKU

Ideal For

OEM shared-bike builds
Rental fleets
Integrated connected-bike platforms

Compatible Fleet Platforms

External third-party IoT module with I/O ports
Operator fleet backend

Specs captured from the official AXA / Allegion E-Rental smart-solutions page on 2026-04-23 and updated after vendor clarification. AXA confirmed on 2026-05-07 that AXA IoT modules are no longer available; remote lock control requires an external third-party IoT module or wired host controller. The wired variant can support remote lock/unlock when the operator supplies the IoT module and protected wiring. Sold B2B-only; pricing is quote-based via Allegion sales.

About This Product

AXA lists the AXA-IN E-RL Wired alongside the Bluetooth variant on its E-Rental smart-solutions page. The official description identifies it as an electronic ring lock with wired communication for bike-sharing deployments.

In a 2026-05-07 follow-up, AXA described the wired ERL 2.0 as the maximum-flexibility option: an external IoT module controls the lock through I/O signals over a 5-wire cable. The IoT module provides the cellular/backend layer; the AXA lock itself is the wired actuator.

AXA also clarified that its own IoT modules are no longer available. This means remote lock and unlock are possible only when the operator supplies and integrates the host IoT module and cabling.
