Transport Mode
What is Transport Mode?
Transport Mode (also called Shipment Mode) is a state where the scooter and its IoT module are powered off completely. When in Transport Mode, the display shows a specific sleep indicator icon.

This mode is designed to protect the battery during shipping and long-term storage by preventing over-discharge.
Why and When to Use Transport Mode
Use Transport Mode when scooters will not be used for an extended period, such as:
- Shipping scooters between locations
- Storing scooters in a warehouse for more than a week
- Taking scooters out of service for maintenance
- Seasonal storage
During Transport Mode, all power to the scooter is cut off, including the IoT's 4G module. The scooter will appear offline in the Dashboard while in this state - this is normal and expected.
How to Enter Transport Mode
There are two methods to put a scooter into Transport Mode:
Method 1: Via API (API Users)
Use the API endpoint: API → Setting → transportation_mode
Method 2: Via App (Software Users and API Users)
Use either the Segway Launcher app or the BLE app:
- Open the Segway Launcher or BLE app on your phone
- Connect to the scooter via Bluetooth
- Navigate to the Settings or Mode section
- Select Transport Mode
- Confirm the action
How to Exit Transport Mode (Normal Mode)
There are two methods to exit Transport Mode:
Method 1: Charge the Scooter
Plugging in the charger will automatically exit Transport Mode. The scooter will restart in normal operating mode after charging for more than 3 seconds.
Method 2: Via App
- Open the Segway Launcher or BLE app
- Connect via Bluetooth
- Select Exit Transport Mode or switch back to normal mode
New Scooters: First-Time Setup
When you receive your first batch of scooters, they will arrive in Transport Mode. You must exit Transport Mode before the scooters can be deployed.
Recommended first-time setup order:
- Exit Transport Mode by charging the scooter
- Activate the scooter in the Segway Dashboard
- Verify the scooter comes online in the Dashboard
- Check that the firmware version is the latest available
- Update firmware if needed

Scooter Shows Offline After Exiting Transport Mode
If the scooter is still offline after charging:
- Verify it is activated in the Dashboard
- Check the IoT IP and APN settings
