Opening the Battery Compartment Cover
If the battery compartment cover is locked and you cannot open it using the app (due to low power, over-discharge, being stuck in Transport Mode, or other reasons), there are two alternative methods.
Method 1: Open with a Key
This method manually opens the battery compartment using a specific key.
Tools needed:
- T20 torx bit
- 3.95mm pentagonal bit (P3)
- Key (see image below)

A tutorial video showing the key-based opening procedure is available from Segway support. Contact your representative to obtain the video.
Key steps:
- Insert the pentagonal bit into the cover's security fastener
- Use the T20 bit to remove the retaining screws
- Use the key to release the lock mechanism
- Lift the cover
Method 2: Emergency Power Converter
If the battery is completely dead and Method 1 does not work, use an Emergency Power Converter to provide external power to the scooter.

This device connects a backup battery to the scooter's power input, providing enough power to:
- Boot the scooter's systems
- Use the Segway Launcher app or Bluetooth tool to unlock the cover as normal
Usage:
- Connect the Emergency Power Converter between an external backup battery and the scooter's charging port
- Once the scooter has power, use the Launcher app or BLE app to open the cover
- After opening, remove the converter and replace with the actual battery
Contact Segway support for the Emergency Power Converter user manual.
Prevention
To avoid being locked out of the battery compartment:
- Charge scooters regularly to prevent deep discharge
- Use Transport Mode for long-term storage (this keeps the battery above minimum charge)
- Carry the key and emergency converter in your maintenance kit for field repairs
