Scooter Storage Suggestions

Proper storage preserves battery health and prevents mechanical damage during downtime.

Temperature Ranges

ConditionTemperature Range
Storage Temperature-4°F to 122°F (-20°C to 50°C)

Using Transport Mode for Storage

If scooters will be stored in a warehouse or out of service for an extended period, put them into Transport Mode first.

Benefits of Transport Mode for storage:

  • Prevents battery over-discharge
  • Extends battery life during long-term storage
  • Reduces fire risk from deeply discharged lithium batteries

How to enter Transport Mode:

  1. Use the Segway Launcher app or BLE app on your phone
  2. Navigate to the scooter settings
  3. Select Transport Mode

See the full Transport Mode guide for details.

Charging Precautions

  1. Charge regularly: Lithium batteries need regular charging. Do not leave scooters discharged for extended periods.
  2. Full charge before storage: Fully charge each scooter before placing it in storage. Then switch to Transport Mode.
  3. Recharge during storage: For storage longer than 1-2 months, check and recharge batteries periodically. Over-discharge can permanently damage the battery.
  4. Use the official Segway charger: Only use the Ninebot/Segway branded charger. Third-party chargers may damage the battery.
  5. Charge in a safe environment: Charge at temperatures between 32°F (0°C) and 104°F (40°C). Do not charge in extreme heat or cold.
  6. Do not leave charging unattended: Do not leave scooters charging overnight in enclosed spaces.

After Storage: Returning Scooters to Service

When bringing stored scooters back into service:

  1. Exit Transport Mode by charging the scooter
  2. Verify the scooter comes online in the Dashboard
  3. Check firmware is current
  4. Run through the maintenance checklist
  5. Test brakes and all functions before deployment
