Upgrade Firmware Over the Air (OTA)
What is OTA?
Over-the-Air (OTA) refers to delivering firmware updates to devices wirelessly, without any physical cable connection. For Segway scooters, OTA firmware delivery requires the scooter to be online (connected to the server via its IoT module).
Why Use OTA?
When many scooters need firmware updates, updating them individually via cable is time-consuming. OTA allows you to push firmware updates to your entire fleet simultaneously, directly from the Dashboard or via the API.
How to Upgrade Firmware via OTA
There are two methods:
Method 1: Dashboard OTA (Recommended for Most Users)
Use the Segway Dashboard to push firmware updates to one or more scooters at once. See the full guide:
Firmware Upgrade via Dashboard
Method 2: API
For API users, firmware upgrades can be triggered programmatically via the Segway API. Contact Segway for API documentation on the firmware upgrade endpoint.
Prerequisites
Before upgrading:
- The scooter must be online (IoT connected to server)
- You have the latest firmware version ready - see Latest Firmware Version
- Follow the correct update sequence: IoT → BMS → Display → Controller
When OTA is Not Available
If a scooter is offline, you cannot use OTA. In that case, use a cable-based update:
- For scooters: IAP Firmware Update via USB Cable
- For MAX PLUS IoT: Firmware Update via Cable - MAX PLUS
