Rider Push Notifications

We recommend keeping this enabled

Levy strongly recommends keeping rider push notifications set to Required for your fleet. Notifications are how riders receive ride status, low-battery and parking reminders, payment alerts, and receipts. Turning the requirement off means riders can start trips without these safety and billing messages, which tends to lead to more mis-parked vehicles, missed payments, and disputes.

What this is

When a rider starts a trip, the Levy app checks whether push notifications are enabled on their phone. Notifications keep riders informed during and after a ride:

  • Ride started, paused, and ended confirmations
  • Low-battery and "leaving the zone" warnings
  • Parking and end-of-ride reminders
  • Payment problems and receipts

Because these messages matter for both the rider and your operation, the app encourages riders to turn notifications on before they ride.

The rider experience

If a rider has not enabled notifications, the app shows a short prompt asking them to turn them on.

  • If they enable notifications, they continue straight into the ride.
  • If they have already turned notifications off in their phone's system settings, the app points them to the correct Settings screen and still lets them ride.
  • The prompt is designed never to permanently strand a rider. Someone who keeps declining is still able to start their trip, so the requirement will not lock anyone out of riding.

In short, it is a strong nudge to enable notifications, not a hard block that prevents rides.

Fleet settings

The requirement can be set per fleet:

SettingWhat riders seeWhen to use
Required (recommended)Prompted to enable notifications before riding. Strongly encouraged, but never permanently blocked. The default for most fleets. Best rider safety and the fewest disputes.
OptionalPrompted once, but can dismiss and ride immediately. If your riders have reported friction and you accept the trade-off.
OffNo notification prompt at ride start.Rare. Only if you have a specific reason to remove the prompt entirely.

Changing this setting

This setting is managed by the Levy team. To change the notification requirement for your fleet, contact support@levyelectric.com and let us know which mode you would like.

Why we recommend Required

Riders who enable notifications:

  • Know right away if a payment fails, which avoids surprise balances and disputes
  • Get parking and end-of-ride reminders, which reduces mis-parked and abandoned vehicles
  • Receive low-battery and zone warnings that keep them and your vehicles safe

For these reasons we recommend leaving the requirement on for most fleets. If riders are reporting friction, Optional is a better middle ground than turning it Off entirely.
