Getting Started with Rider Score

Rider Score is off by default on every subaccount. Turning it on for the first time creates default tiers, default weights, and default ladder rules, all of which you can edit. Existing rides do not get backfilled - scoring starts forward from the moment you enable it.

Navigation

Enable at Dashboard > Rider Score > Settings.

Before you turn it on

Run through this short checklist. None of it is hard-blocking, but each item improves the quality of your first month of scores.

  1. Confirm parking zones are accurate. Parking compliance is 15 points of the score. If your parking_zones are wrong, riders get unfairly penalized.
  2. Confirm zone speed limits are set. Speed compliance is 20 points of the score, normalized against the zone limit. A missing limit defaults to fleet-wide.
  3. Set your reward budget. Decide a monthly per-rider wallet credit cap. Default is conservative.
  4. Tell your support team. Riders will start seeing scores and tier banners. Support should know what an "At Risk" tier means and how the appeal queue works.
  5. Update your rental agreement. Required language: "Levy may reduce vehicle performance for accounts with elevated safety risk profiles." See Appeals and Disputes for the full disclosure.

Step 1 - Enable the feature

  1. Navigate to Dashboard > Rider Score > Settings.
  2. Toggle Enable Rider Score on.
  3. The system seeds six default tiers (Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze, At Risk, Beginner) and default weights.
  4. Save.

The feature toggle is per-subaccount. Other subaccounts in your account are unaffected.

Step 2 - Review tier defaults

Go to Settings > Tiers. The default thresholds are:

TierScoreDefault perks
Platinum90+10% off rides, 1 free unlock per week, priority reservation
Gold80-895% off rides, 1 free unlock per month
Silver70-79Quarterly bonus wallet credit
Bronze50-69Standard pricing
At Risk<50Price uplift plus interventions
Beginner<3 ridesLocked tier, no penalties, helmet selfie unlocks Silver perks

Edit perks, thresholds, and the monthly credit cap. See Reward Tiers for the full configuration model.

Step 3 - Review weights

Go to Settings > Weights. Default scoring weights sum to 100, with two penalty terms:

SignalWeight
Speed compliance20
Parking compliance15
Geofence violations15
Hard braking proxy10
Throttle aggression10
Clean ride end10
Helmet verification10
Sidewalk events10 (reserved, weight 0 until CV ships)
Open violations-5 each
Open interventions-2 each

Leave defaults for the first 4 weeks. Adjust after you have real data and patterns to react to.

Step 4 - Configure the intervention ladder

Go to Settings > Ladder rules. The 7-step ladder is enabled by default. We recommend you leave step 7 (permanent ban) gated behind manual ops review.

See Intervention Ladder for what each step does and how throttle caps reach the vehicle.

Step 5 - Run a 4-week tuning window

Treat the first month as a tuning pilot:

  • Watch the Distribution histogram daily. If too many riders bunch up in At Risk, your weights are too punitive.
  • Read your first 10-20 appeals carefully. The appeal language usually exposes a fairness blind spot.
  • Do not push permanent bans during the tuning window.
  • After 4 weeks, set your weights, perks, and ladder thresholds for real.

Step 6 - Communicate to riders

When the rider app first detects an active rider-score profile, the rider sees an onboarding screen explaining what is scored and what is not. You do not have to send a separate email, but most operators do anyway. A simple message works:

"We added a rider score to your account. Safe riders pay less and get bonus credits. You can see your score and the full breakdown in the app. If you ever think a score is wrong, tap Dispute on the trip."

What happens for your existing customers

  • Rides 1-3 from this point forward are scored, but the rider stays in Beginner tier until they complete 3 rides.
  • Beginner riders are not penalized - the score is recorded but does not yet drive interventions.
  • Helmet selfie verification unlocks Silver-tier perks during Beginner so new riders feel rewarded immediately.

What happens if you turn it off

Toggle Enable Rider Score off:

  • All scoring stops. New rides are not scored.
  • Existing scores and signals are preserved (in case you re-enable).
  • Active interventions are paused, not deleted.
  • Pending rewards are not issued.

You can re-enable at any time without re-seeding.

Where to go next

Read Weights and Settings to understand the levers, then Intervention Ladder to see how unsafe behavior is handled.
