Theft & Tip-Over Alerts
Levy Fleets can notify your team the moment a vehicle is moved while it should be sitting still (a likely theft), or when a vehicle reports that it has tipped over. Both alerts are opt-in and are configured in the same place.
Where to find these settings
Go to Dashboard → Settings → Alerts. The on/off switches are under Operational Alerts, and the addresses they send to are under Alert Recipients.
These alerts are off by default
A new account does not receive theft or tip-over alerts until you turn them on. Enabling a switch is only half the job — the alert also needs a recipient (an email address, or a phone number for SMS) or it has nowhere to go. See Set your alert recipients below.
What each alert does
| Switch (Settings → Alerts) | Fires when… | Goes to |
|---|---|---|
| Illegal movement alerts | A locked or parked vehicle moves a meaningful distance from where it was left (possible theft) | Critical alerts email |
| Vehicle issue alerts | A vehicle reports a fault — including a tip-over / overturn — or another hardware error | Operational alerts email |
Tip-over alerts live under “Vehicle issue alerts”
There is no separate tip-over switch. Turning on Vehicle issue alerts enables tip-over / overturn notifications along with other reported vehicle faults.
Turn on illegal movement (theft) alerts
- Open Settings → Alerts.
- Under Operational Alerts, switch on Illegal movement alerts.
- Under Alert Recipients, make sure the Critical alerts email is filled in — this is where theft alerts are sent. If it is blank, the alert falls back to your account's contact email.
- (Optional) To also get a text message, see SMS theft alerts.
- Click Save.
These alerts are built for genuine unauthorized movement. Small GPS fluctuations from a stationary vehicle are filtered out, so you will not be paged for a scooter that has not actually moved. Repeat alerts for the same vehicle are rate-limited, so a vehicle in motion will not flood your inbox.
Turn on tip-over / overturn alerts
- Open Settings → Alerts.
- Under Operational Alerts, switch on Vehicle issue alerts.
- Under Alert Recipients, make sure the Operational alerts email is filled in — this is where tip-over and vehicle-fault alerts are sent.
- Click Save.
You'll get an email when a vehicle reports it has fallen over, so your team can respond before it becomes a safety or damage problem.
Set your alert recipients
This is the step that is easiest to miss. Each alert routes to a specific recipient field. Turning on a switch without filling in the matching address means the alert is generated but never delivered.
| Alert | Recipient field (Settings → Alerts → Alert Recipients) |
|---|---|
| Illegal movement (theft) | Critical alerts email — falls back to the account contact email if blank |
| Tip-over / overturn (vehicle issue) | Operational alerts email — no fallback; if blank, no email is sent |
| Low battery, maintenance | Operational alerts email |
| Moving vehicle, out of zone | Critical alerts email |
Quick setup
If you want one person to receive everything, put the same address in both Operational alerts email and Critical alerts email.
SMS theft alerts
You can also receive illegal-movement alerts as a text message:
- Open Settings → Alerts and scroll to SMS Notifications.
- Enter an SMS recipient phone number in international format (for example,
+1 555 123 4567). The SMS switches stay greyed out until a number is saved. - Switch on Illegal movement alerts under SMS.
- Click Save.
SMS needs a phone number first
The SMS alert switches are disabled until you enter and save an SMS recipient phone number.
Troubleshooting
I turned the alert on but nobody received an email. Check the recipient field that alert uses (see the routing table). Tip-over / vehicle-issue emails go to the Operational alerts email; theft emails go to the Critical alerts email. If the matching field is blank, fill it in and save. Also check spam folders.
I'm not getting theft alerts by text. Confirm an SMS recipient phone number is saved (the switch is disabled without one) and that Illegal movement alerts is on under SMS Notifications.
A vehicle that hasn't moved keeps looking like it's moving. Minor GPS drift is filtered out before any alert is sent, so it should not generate emails. If you are seeing repeated real alerts, the vehicle may actually be moving — check its live location on the map.
