Zone Management
Zones allow you to define geographic boundaries that control vehicle behavior and rider experience. Create parking zones, restrict access to sensitive areas, enforce speed limits, and define your service area.
Navigation
Access Zone Management from Dashboard > Zones in the sidebar.
Zone Overview
What Zones Do
Zones enable you to:
- Define service areas - Where customers can rent vehicles
- Designate parking - Preferred and required parking locations
- Restrict access - No-go zones where riding is prohibited
- Control speed - Areas with enforced speed limits
- Incentivize behavior - Bonus zones for desired parking
Zone Types
| Type | Description | Icon |
|---|---|---|
| Parking | Preferred parking areas | P |
| No Parking | Areas where parking is forbidden | 🚫P |
| No Go | Areas where riding is prohibited | ⛔ |
| Speed Limit | Areas with reduced speed limits | 🐢 |
| Charging | Charging station locations | ⚡ |
| Bonus | Areas with parking rewards | 🎁 |

Zone Types in Detail
Parking Zones
Parking zones designate where customers can end their rides.
Configuration:
- Mark as "preferred" for incentivized locations
- Set parking reward points
- Add custom parking message
- Define hours of operation
Behavior:
- Customers see zones on the map
- App encourages parking in zones
- Rewards given for compliant parking
No Parking Zones
Areas where customers cannot end their rides.
Use Cases:
- Private property
- Pedestrian-only areas
- Emergency access routes
- Building entrances
Behavior:
- Customers warned when in zone
- Ride cannot be ended in zone
- Must move vehicle to end ride
No Go Zones
Areas where vehicle throttle is disabled.
Use Cases:
- Pedestrian plazas
- Indoor areas
- Construction zones
- High-risk locations
Behavior:
- Throttle disabled when entering
- Ride can continue (coasting only)
- Alert shown to rider
- Ride may be auto-paused
Safety First
No-go zones should be used carefully. Sudden throttle disable can be dangerous - warn riders appropriately.
Speed Limit Zones
Areas with enforced speed limits.
Configuration:
- Set maximum speed (5-25 KPH typical)
- Define zone boundaries
- Choose enforcement type
Behavior:
- Vehicle speed limited automatically
- Rider sees speed limit notification
- Speed limit icon shown on map
Common Speed Limits:
| Location | Typical Limit |
|---|---|
| Pedestrian areas | 5-8 KPH |
| Parks | 10-15 KPH |
| Busy streets | 15-20 KPH |
| Campus areas | 10-12 KPH |
Charging Zones
Locations of charging stations or battery swap points.
Configuration:
- Mark station location
- Add description
- Set operating hours
- Link to station inventory
Behavior:
- Shown on map for riders
- Can be parking endpoint
- Integration with charging systems
Bonus Zones
Areas that offer rewards for parking.
Configuration:
- Set bonus point amount
- Define rebalancing multiplier
- Set time-based bonuses
- Custom messaging
Behavior:
- Higher rewards shown on map
- Customers incentivized to park here
- Helps with fleet rebalancing
Zone Enforcement
How Enforcement Works
When a vehicle enters or exits a zone:
- GPS position is checked against zone boundaries
- Zone rules are evaluated
- Commands sent to vehicle (if applicable)
- Rider notified of zone entry/restrictions
Enforcement Actions
| Zone Type | Entry Action | Exit Action |
|---|---|---|
| Parking | Show on map | - |
| No Parking | Warn rider | - |
| No Go | Disable throttle | Enable throttle |
| Speed Limit | Reduce speed | Restore speed |
| Bonus | Show bonus amount | - |
GPS Accuracy Considerations
Zone boundaries have inherent GPS uncertainty:
- GPS accuracy varies (3-15 meters typical)
- Indoor/urban areas have worse accuracy
- Boundaries should have buffer zones
- Critical zones should be larger than needed
Buffer Zones
Make zone boundaries 5-10 meters larger than the actual restricted area to account for GPS inaccuracy.
Managing Existing Zones
Viewing Zones
The zones page shows:
- Map with all zones displayed
- List of zones with details
- Filter by zone type
- Search by name
Editing Zones
To modify a zone:
- Click on the zone in the list or map
- Click Edit
- Adjust boundaries or settings
- Click Save
Deleting Zones
To remove a zone:
- Click on the zone
- Click Delete
- Confirm deletion
Active Rides
Deleting a zone while rides are active in that area may cause unexpected behavior. Consider disabling the zone first.
Zone Priority
When zones overlap, priority determines behavior:
- No Go - Highest priority
- No Parking - High priority
- Speed Limit - Medium priority
- Parking/Bonus - Lowest priority
Service Area
Defining Your Service Area
The service area defines where customers can rent vehicles:
- Create a large "Service Area" zone
- Cover your entire operating region
- Vehicles outside cannot be rented
Out of Service Area
When vehicles are outside the service area:
- Shows as "Out of Service Area" to customers
- Cannot be unlocked
- Alerts operator of vehicle location
Best Practices
Zone Design
- Use clear, descriptive names
- Keep boundaries simple (fewer vertices)
- Account for GPS accuracy
- Test zones before deployment
Speed Zones
- Use gradual speed transitions
- Warn riders before speed reduction
- Avoid sudden speed changes
- Consider pedestrian flow patterns
Parking Zones
- Cover high-demand areas
- Include transit connections
- Avoid blocking pedestrian paths
- Consider accessibility requirements
No-Go Zones
- Mark clearly in app
- Use for genuine safety concerns
- Provide alternative routes
- Review regularly
Zone Analytics
Tracking Zone Usage
Monitor zone performance:
- Rides starting/ending in zones
- Parking compliance rates
- Speed zone effectiveness
- Bonus zone utilization
Adjusting Zones
Based on analytics:
- Expand popular parking zones
- Adjust bonus amounts
- Refine speed zone boundaries
- Remove unused zones
Troubleshooting
Zone Not Enforcing
Possible causes:
- Zone not saved properly
- GPS accuracy issues
- Vehicle firmware issue
- Zone type misconfigured
Solutions:
- Verify zone appears on map
- Check zone type is correct
- Test with known location
- Review vehicle telemetry
Riders Confused by Zones
Solutions:
- Add clear zone names
- Include helpful messages
- Improve in-app zone display
- Add signage at physical locations
